In 2021, 1-8 former sources of imports from the United States were: Taiwan, China, Japan, Germany, Canada, Korea, India, Italy, Mexico and Vietnam, and the Chinese mainland's ten largest sources of imports. Among them, 477517815 kg from Taiwan, China, accounting for 41.29% of the import of fasteners in the United States, and 299319673 kg from Chinese mainland, accounting for 25.89%.
Main categories of imported products: steel threaded fasteners (731815) with and without nuts and gaskets, steel threaded self tapping screws (731814) and steel threaded nuts (731816).
Fasteners are mainly imported into the Midwest of the United States (Chicago, Illinois) and Southern California (Los Angeles, California). The region of U.S. imports may be based on economic or strategic considerations, or may reflect the geographical relativity of imports. Several large fastener manufacturers are located in the West Bank and Midwest, which also explains why these entrances import the most fasteners every year. These fastener products imported from the United States are mainly customs code 731815, followed by 731814 and 731816. The sub projects under code 7318 account for about 87% of the total fastener imports of the United States in the first eight months of 2021.
However, the import of fasteners in the United States has not increased. The import volume and import volume have been flat since 2017. Overall, it is US $4.3 billion and 780 million kg per year. In 2020, the total amount decreased to USD 3.5 billion, and in the first eight months of 2021, the total amount increased to USD 2.7 billion and 4.8 million kg. The main export targets of fasteners in the United States are Mexico (28% in 2019) and Canada (59%).
Not surprisingly, the main areas of U.S. fastener exports are Laredo, Texas and Detroit, Michigan, both of which are very close to the Mexican Canadian border. The customs codes of fasteners exported are mainly 731815 and 731816. In the first eight months of 2021, 54% of 731815 products in the United States and only 7% of 731816 products were exported. In terms of fastener export, the product export of the United States belongs to the nature of domestic trade, that is, the trade between states. In 2020, about 84% of the total exports of the United States were regarded as domestic trade, and only 15% were international trade.
